NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana Nov.6 said that if necessary his government would approach the International Human Rights Commission if the Center did not take early action against the culprits responsible for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Speaking at a function organized by the riot victim relief committee to pay homage to the Sikhs killed in 1984, the Chief Minister said neither would he sit quietly nor let the Center sleep over the issue of bringing the culprits to book. He said the BJP had never taken an antinational stand and in line with this policy, the party had supported the Sikhs even in 1984, The Chief Minister, described the November, 1984, riots as a black spot in the history of the nation. All India Riot victim relief committee president Jathedar Kuldip Singh Bhogal demanded punishment of the guilty and increasing the time frame for return of the relief and rehabilitation assistance. Delhi Industry Minister *Harsharan Singh Bali said a resolution had been passed to declare Punjabi as the second official language in the state. This had been sent to the Center for its approval. Meanwhile, prominent leaders, including former Prime Ministers V.P. Singh and Chandra Shekhar, BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K, Advani, will be attending an all-party meeting to evolve a strategy for mobilizing support to get justice for the victims of the 1984 Sikh riots. The meeting, on November 11 is being organized by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Mr. Manjit Singh Calcutta, president of the committee said.
‘Among others who have been invited to speak at the meeting are UP Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, Mr. Somnath Chatterjee, Mr, Harkishan Surjeet, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, Mr, Kanshi Ram and Mr. Gurcharan Singh Tohra.
