NEW DELHI: The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) named 17 cyclists for the Beijing Asian Games.
CFI President K.S, Bains told newsmen here that the squad was selected after five days of trials during which seven national records were improved upon.
The squad consists of 12 men and five women.
Mr Bains said the same team would earlier take part in the world championship to be held in Japan from August 20 to September 2.
He said the qualifying standard for cyclists was the third place timing at the Asian Cycling Championship which was held here in December last year.
The team: (men): Fatehjang Singh, Balraj Singh Cheema, Trilochan Singh, Sukhraj Cheema, Kripal Singh, Ajit Singh, Rossel Tumer, Murari Lal, Lakhwinder Singh, Hira Ram, Christopher and R.N. Atiar.
Women: H. Sunita Devi, Daisy, Jasmin Arethna, Omega Devi and Prema Peti Devi.
Mr Bains also announced the events in which India will take part in Asiad and the participants: (Men) 100 m time trial: Fatehjang Singh, Balraj Singh Cheema. 4000 m individual pursuit: Trilochan Singh, Sukhraj Cheema. 100 km road team trial: Morani Lal, Lakhwinder Singh, Hira Ram Christopher and R.N. Attar.
Women: 1000 m time trial: H. Sunita
Devi, 1000 m sprint: Daisy, Jasmin Arethna, 3000 m individual pursuit: Omega Devi, Prema Pati Devi.
