NEW DELHI: India will take on Japan in its opening match in the third women’s intercontinental hockey cup to be held here from November 1 to 12.
Twelve teams taking part in the championship have been divided into two groups. India figure in pool “B” along with ‘Austria, Japan, Malaysia, Spain and the United States.
Pool “A” consists of China, France, Ireland, Italy, South Korea and Scotland.
The first four teams will qualify for the seventh world cup to the held at Sydney in May next year. Eight teams Argentina, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, England, Germany, Holland and the Soviet Union have already qualified for the world cup. This is the first time that the intercontinental cup is being held in India.
