ISLAMABAD: Begum Shafiqua, widow of Gen ZiaulHaq, has said neither she nor other members of the late. President’s family will leave Pakistan.

“Our hands are clean why should we leave the country, she said in an interview here.

She was very bitter about the press. She denied newspaper reports that quoted her as saying that she had been rejected facilities by the Government.

Referring to reports in the press that Gen Zia’s family had amassed wealth and built huge property at home and abroad, Begum Shafiqua challenged anyone to come up with any evidence on the “whereabouts” of “our wealth”.

“My husband served this nation for 11 long years, honestly and dedicatedly. And now these people call him “a dictator”, Begum Shafiqua said.

She spoke proudly of her husband and recounted his “achievements” “One day his virtuous deeds will come out in the open,” she said.
