An international youth symposium organized by the Sikh Foundation of Virginia (SFV), sponsored by Hemkunt Foundation, New York, for Sikh youth was held on April 7, 1990 at SFV Gurdwara Sahib, 7250 Ox road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039. Two ages groups 710 and 1114 took part. Each group had a different book/source material to report. The book for younger group was Navin Paniri on Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the book for Group I was Sikh History Part IV (Life of Gum Gobind Singh Ji) by Prof Kartar Singh and Gurdial Singh Dhillon. Each child was allotted 57 minutes to present his/her Report. There were a total of 17 Participants in both third prize winners were Sukhmani Kaur Sarao, Smita Kaur Sarao, and Arjun Singh Sethi, respectively. Among age group (1114) first, second and third prize winners were Rasna Kaur Sarao, Gobind singh Sethi, and Navdeep Kathuria, respectively.

Other participant’s names were as follows: Age Group (710 years) Fatehpal Singh Jhaj, Isha Manku, Sahiba Rathore, Gurpreet Singh, Jasjeet Singh, Jasjeet Singh and Manpreet Singh, Age Group (1114) Anureet Deu, Moon Paul, Nitin Singh Sethi, Rick Singh, and Sukhdeep Singh.

The symposium was a great success. It was conducted in its entirety by the youth of the Sikh Foundation of Virginia and the closing remarks were made by Mandeep’s. Dhillon, a sophomore at Duke University, N.C. Accolades to S. Shamsher Singh of Hemkunt Foundation, New York for creating such a fine opportunity for Sikh youth to participant in and learn more about their wonder full heritage.
