ONTARIO: A committee has been formed by World Sikh Organization for the release of Justice Ajit Singh Bains.
World Sikh Organization has continuously worked for the release of all political prisoners in India and especially in Punjab for the past eight years. We would like to share with you the role of World Sikh Organization in securing the release of all innocent political prisoners.
We regularly work with Amnesty International and other human rights organizations in highlighting the draconian laws of India, with hopes of seeking world attention, helping all political prisoners and getting rid of the notorious acts such as Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act (TADA).
When we heard of Ajit Singh Bains arrest, we immediately telephoned Amnesty Internationals Ottawa office, and sent all details to their London office,
Other options open to us were to bring it to the attention of governments. In Canada, the method we chose was to apprise three MPs Barbara Greene (PC), Derek Lee (Lib) and Sven Robinson (NDP). These. parliamentarians had personally met Justice Bains during their visit to Punjab, which was sponsored by World Sikh Organization, The Critics for human rights have also been informed. A letter of protest has been written to the Indian High Commission by Dr.
of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. Copies of that letter also went to P.M. Mulroney, and others.
Our USA Branch took up his case with the US Congress. Congressman Wally Herger (California) has taken personal interest to secure his release.
We will continue to lobby, until such time that Justice Bains others like him are released.” highly commend all the contributions made to this effort”, S. Gian Singh Sandhu, international President W.S.O.
