Sir,

I welcome the opportunity to greet the readers of World Sikh News and to thank the dedicated individuals whose efforts make it possible for each of us to be kept informed about events in India. I am grateful, too, for the paper’s consistent coverage of the plight of Ranjit Singh Gill and Sukhminder Singh Sandhu, whom, with William M. Kunstler and Ronald L. Kuby, I am honored to represent. I and other lawyers involved in defending individuals who face persecution of the gravest sort if returned to India tum regularly to pages of WSN for current information about the human rights situation there. Within its pages we have access to authoritative reports prepared by responsible human rights activists who are on the scene. Absent World Sikh News, these reports would too often remain unknown and unavailable. Human rights violations flourish in darkness. We all owe a debt of thanks to World Sikhs News for time and time again shedding light.
