CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 30th dismissed a writ petition filed by Arminderjit Singh of Ludhiana against the State of Punjab, the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Speaker, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, four other Ministers and 26 MLAs. The writ seeks directions to prohibit the respondent state from entertaining and processing travelling allowance, dearness allowance, salary, petrol expenses and other emoluments of the MLAs and Ministers who had gone to Delhi for their private political activities.
The writ also prayed for directions to the MLAs and Ministers to resume their official duties being public servants and for refraining them from misusing official government machinery like transport, security, government staff and rest houses while they were stationed at Delhi. It was contended by Ashok Aggarwal and Amit Rawat that the Ministers and MLAs who were in Delhi in connection with political activities should bear all expenses from their own pocket.
The petition came up before the Bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Monday and had been referred to the Special Division Bench comprising Justice G.C. Garg and Justice H.S. Bedi, who dismissed the petition Tuesday, finding no ground for any interference.
