AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandak Committee an apex body managing all Sikh shrines has sought the help of Prime Minister VP Singh in getting back the relics of the Tenth Sikh Guru, Gum Gobind Singh from the British government.

SGPC secretary Manjit Singh Calcutta told PTI here on Monday that he had written to the prime minister and external affairs minister I.K. Gujral to urge the British government to return the Kalgi (Aigrette) and two swords belonging to the Guru.

These were shifted from Punjab on its annexation on the death of Maharja Ranjit Singh in 1849 along with other arms which were part of “Tosha Khana” of the Maharaja.

One sword which bore the inscription in Persian and Gurmukhi was presented to Queen Victoria in 1855 and presumably found its way to the royal armory, Manjit Singh claimed quoting historians.
