World Sikh Conference held in Washington on June 30, 1990 was very largely attended meeting by delegates from different organizations from all over the world. They discussed to create unity and increased coordination amongst different organizations for liberating Khalistan. The conference was jointly organized by Guru Nanak Foundation, Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Sikh Broadcasting Organization, and Washington Sikh Center.

Conference started with Chaupai Sahib Paath and prayer to Waheguru to help Khalsa to liberate Khalistan and bless all those who are involved in this supreme cause. Sardar Balwant Singh Goraya spoke on the objective of the conference highlighting liberation of Khalistan and increased amity amongst different Sikh organizations as the primary objectives of the discussion.

Prof. Gurcharan Singh from New York alerted Sikhs that they cannot afford to lose opportunity of freedom now as they have done once in the past. He suggested Council of Khalistan, the only organization which can create greater harmony and better understanding amongst different organizations. Dr. Ranbir Singh Sandhu (Ohio) threw some light on Guru. It has and inspired to become Guru Wale in this crucial time. Surinderpal Singh Kalra from Chicago told not to indulge in condemning any Sikh organization but to increase mutual coordination. He emphasized on helping Sikh Youth and their families involved in the struggle. Bhai Tejinder Singh (Panthic Committee) appealed to the Sikh community to set aside personalities for the sake of ultimate goal and strengthen the hands of those who are actively fighting for the liberation of Khalistan. Sardar Gurcharan Singh Dhillon (President WSO) stressed on the need of proper understanding and coordination amongst different organizations making clear that WSO is working and will keep on working with Council of Khalistan for the liberation of Khalistan. Sardar Didar Singh Bains (California) suggested that mutual respect for organizations working for the cause was the need of the time and appreciated the efforts of all those involved in the liberation of Khalistan, Bhai Gurcharan Singh (Montreal) and Bhai Paul ‘Singh (France) requested Sikhs all ‘over the world to unite for the cause. Sardar Baldev Singh (NY) told Sikhs to be aware of conspiracies hatched by government of India to entrap them behind the prisons. Sardar Amarjit Singh Buttar (Connecticut) condemned those who conspired with the government of India to damage our cause on one side and declared to be most panthic on the other side. Prof. Udal Singh (Toronto) considered the youths’ participation in fighting for liberation of Khalistan as the pivot to the whole movement and requested to strengthen it by donating liberally. Mrs, Sethi (Washington) suggested to devote some resources to establish TV networks to encounter the false propaganda of government of India. Bibi Dhammu challenged Sikh women for greater participation in the struggle.

Dr, Gurmeet Singh Aulakh (Washington) congratulated the Sikh sangat in exerting pressure on world opinion to compel India to allow amnesty in India, Sardar Jagjit Singh Mangat (NY), Sardar Amarjit Singh Grewal (NJ) , Sardar Satnam Singh (Ontario), Sardar Jasbir Singh (Toronto), Sardar Bakhtawar Singh (NC) , Sardar Balbir Singh Brar (Canada), Sardar Mehar Singh (Iowa), delegates from Flushing and Philadelphia, and from other places helped the conference to realize its objectives by giving their views. Sardar Gurmeet Singh Gunia (Chairman Guru Nanak Foundation) had the closing comments and thanked the participants. Following are the resolutions which were passed unanimously:

  1. Whereas the government of India and state of Punjab have been consistently harassing, maligning, and physically eliminating Sikh organizations fighting for the liberation of Khalistan; this conference reaffirms the declaration of Independence of the Sikh nation adopted by the Panthic Committee on April 29,198 6; and expresses its full support for the Sikhs and Sikh organizations engaged in the struggle for freedom of the Sikh nation; this conference further demands that the government of India recognize freedom of the Sikh nation and to meet with the leaders of the Sikh struggle to demarcate the boundaries of the Sikh state of Khalistan.
  2. whereas this conference recognizes the need for greater participation by the Sikh sangat around the world in our struggle for freedom of Khalistan and of adequate communications of various Sikh organizations; this conference suggests that the Council of Khalistan establish a coordinate committee for the above captioned functions.
  1. This conference requests the Sikh institutions to provide increased moral and financial support to Sikh human rights groups as needed for the promotion of the Sikh cause.
  2. This conference requests all the Sikh institutions to give recognition, provide moral and financial support to all those organizations which are fighting for the liberation of Khalistan.
  3. Whereas the conference recognizes the gallant efforts of the Kashmiri Muslims for the liberation of their homeland; we express our support for the struggle of Kashmiri Bretherns and wish them early victory against the Indian occupying forces.
