BURNBY: In a very rare observance in Canada, the World Hindu Organization in Burn by, British Columbia joined nands with Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, Surrey and held Akhand Path on December 16 to commemorate Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom. A half page advertisement was carried in “The Indo Canadian Times” in Vancouver announcing the new alliance between the Hindus and Sikhs the World Hindu Organization invited all to participate. It was a bold step for both communities observing Guru’s sacrifices for the larger Hindu population in India (16211675AD) in which he had laid his life. For the first time, even the two diverse logos of Sikhs’ Khanda and Vishwa Hindu Parishad appeared together. The note said, “Following the extreme tortures and atrocities by the tyrant Moghul Emperor Aurangzeb against Hindus, Guru Tegh Bahadur gave his life to protect the Hindu religion.” With the great historical fact in force, especially in British Columbia where the Sikhs continue to dominate, the aforesaid observance was unique and may lead to heal relations between the two age old and rival Indian communities in future. Sudarshan Bakshi, Bahadur Dhillon and Suresh Khare of WHO deserve mention in the new alliance in Burn by.
