NEW DELHI: Indian cricket officials said the. Subcontinent’s prospects of hosting the next World Cup could be threatened if Pakistan did not arrive on schedule for a planned tour next month.
Pakistan is scheduled to play in a six nation tournament to commemorate the Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) diamond jubilee next month, and then stay on for a series of three Tests and three one day matches.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) has yet to confirm the team will come and has publicly expressed its concerns over security following threats from a militant Hindu group based in Bombay to bum stadiums if they were allowed to play in India. The ICC, which awarded the World Cup in February jointly to India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, would then review its decision, the officials said.
