Chandigarh: The Sriomani Akali Dal condemns the dastardly act of Hindu fundamentalists tearing down the Babri Masjid. The Sriomani Akali Dal had always expressed its fears that the Hindu fundamentalists forces in the BJP the Congress (I) and the Supreme Court of India were conniving with one another for this act of vandalism. Since I was the strongest Opponent to the demolition of the mosque. I was barred from the National Integration Council. Narasimha Rao earlier as Home Minister of India in 1984 stood a silent spectator to the massacre of the Sikhs Now as Prime Minister he did nothing to stop the finatics. I am presenting a copy of my written press statement in Jullunder on 3/12/92. In which | had questioned the moving of first Corp of the Indian Army from Mathura to the Panjab in the wake of the intentions of the fanatics and sending Para-military forces to Ayodhya from the Panjab instead. The situation in the Panjab was normal but in U.P. it was not. Gen Rodrigues the Chief of staff of the army has talked of “good government” being the duty of the Indian Army. What does he propose to do now especially when the edifice of secularism has been brought down by an inefficient ineffective and inactive government which cannot preserve and protect the Constitution and uphold the mule of law Constitutions are wrecked because there are not good democrats. Successive Prime Ministers have ruled the country through force and barbaric methods. In a democracy it is the law that is supreme and not force. However the little men at the top have used force and not law to govern As far as force is concerned the army has more force and less legal sense. The Sriomani Akali Dal fears that democracy with the destruction of the Golden Temple and the Babri Masjid has died. The country hereafter will first face military rule and because martial law never succeeds the disintegration of this country is inevitable Shallow small intolerant and corrupt people at the helm have brought about this shameful disaster. The Sikhs in their hundreds shed their blood for the independence of this country. Today they are a hunted species in a country which they built with their toll sweat and blood. The shameful massacre at Nazamdinwala is a blot not only on the conscience of the majority but has the direct involvement of the Prime Minister of India. Even in the demolition of the Babri Masjid the Prime Ministers indulgence connivance and support to the fanatics is no longer a secret. He must not only be dismissed but be punished for conspiracy to murder in 1984 the massacre of Nazamdinwala and the tearing down of the Babri Masjid. The Sriomani Akali Dal is also critical of the silence of the organization of Islamic Countries which did not caution the Government of India of the consequences of raising the mosque to the ground. The Sikh nation stands by its Muslim brothers in their hour of grief and humiliation Only we know how a minority feels at the hands of a bigoted intolerant and savage majority. We seck the immediate arrest of all BJP Shiv Sena and Hindu Parishid members who participated in this great act of sacrilege and also for criminal conspiracy of Hindu fundamentalists in the Union Cabinet. Nothing short of swift action will satisfy secular public opinion amongst the civilized democratic nations of the world The Sriomani Akali Dal calls upon the President of India to initiate immediate legislation under article 249 of the constitution declare the town a centrally governed city and take up the task of rebuilding the mosque without further delay.
