Minister of State for External Af fairs K. Natwar Singh lost to Ja nata Dal candidate Manavendra Singh by 37,688 votes in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, Lok Sabha constituency.

Ajit Kumar Panja (Congress) was reelected to the Lok Sabha from Calutta Northeast in West Bengal. He defeated his nearest rival Satyasadhan Chakraborty (CPIM) by a margin of more than 27,000 votes in a ten cornered contest.

Central Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Sukh Ram (Who was identified with the recent sugar crisis) lost to BJP candidate Maheshwar Singh by more than 28,000 votes. While Maheshwar Singh polled 234,144, Ram got 206,095.

BJP President L.K. Advani was declared elected from New Delhi constituency. He defeated Congress candidate Mohini Giri by a margin of more than 21,000 votes. This was his first attempt to enter the Lok Sabha, as he has so far been a member of the Rajya Sa bha. Advani polled 129,000 votes while Giri polled 97,415.

BJP Delhi unit chief Madan Lal Khurana posted a convincing vic tory, defeating Congress’ Subhash Chopra, a former Delhi University Students Union President, by a margin of more than.90,000 votes from South Delhi.

BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Malhotra defeated Food Process ing Minister Jagdish Tytler by more than 32,000 votes. Malhotra polled 163,000 votes and Tytler 131,000 votes.

Central Home Minister Buta Singh lost Jalore (Rajasthan) seat to Kaulaum Meghwal of BJP, By a margin of over 33,000 votes.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal of Congress was declared elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhiwani (Haryana) defeating his nearest Janata Dal rival Dharam vir by a margin of more than 139,000 votes.

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai (ALADMK) was declared elected from Karur de feating his nearest DMK rival K.P. Palaniswamy by a margin of 238,751 votes in a multicomed contest.

Central Minister of State for Home P. Chidambaram retained his Sivaganga seat defeating his nearest DMK rival A. Ganesan by a margin of 219,332 votes in a nine covered contest.

Railway Minister Madhav Rao Scindia was reelected from Gwal ior (Madhya Pradesh) defeating his BJP rival Shitala Sahay by over 150,000 votes.

BJP national Vice-president Vijava Raje Scindia defeated Ma hendra Singh of the Congress in Guna (Madhya Pradesh) by a margin of more than 146,000 votes.

The Shiv Sena (a right wing pro Hindu party) made an entry into Parliament when its candidate Wamanrao Mabadik was declared elected in Bombay. Mahadik, who polled 160,167 votes trounced D.T. Ru pawate (Congress) by a margin of 11466 votes and wrested the seat from Dr. Datta Samant who won the seat in 1984.

Central Minister of State for Finance B.K. Gadhavi was de feated in Banaskantha consti tuency by 250,131 votes by Janata Dal candidate Jayantilal Shah.

P.V. Narasimha Rao (Congress), Minister of External Affairs was elected from Ramtek (Maha rashtra), defeating his nearest rival Panduran Hazare (Janata Dal) by 34,470 votes.

  1. Antulay (Congress) was elected from Kulaba constituency in Maharashtra, defeating his nearest rival D.R. Patil (PWP) by 115,434 votes.

Madhu Dandawate (Janata Dal) was elected from Rajapur (Maharashtra) constituency defeating his nearest Congress rival Raje nearest Congress rival Shivram Raje Bhosale by 42,370 votes. Prof. Dandawate retains the seat.

Haryana Chief Minister and the Janata Dal supremo, Devi Lal, was elected from Sikar (Rajas than). He unseated the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Dr. Balram Jakhar by a margin of over 40,000 votes in a straight contest.

Central Agriculture Minister Bhajan Lal (Congress) was dec lared elected to the Lok sabha from Faridabad (Haryana) defeating his nearest Janata Dal rival Khurshid Ahmed by a margin of more than 133,000 votes.

Information and Broadcasting Minister H.K.L. Bhagat retained his East Delhi seat defeating Janata Dal nominee Chand Ram by a margin of about 150,000 votes.

Chandra Shekhar, (Janata Dal) elected froin Ballia, Utiar Pradesh, constituency defeating his nearest rival Jaganath Chowdhry of the Congress by a margin of 102,297 votes.

  1. Gujral, fromer Ambassador to the Soviet Union, and now a Janata Dal leader defeated his congress rival R.S. Sparrow by over 80,000. Gujral was also a former central minister.
