NEW DELHI: The passport of Win Chadha, an accused in the 1.3 billion dollar Bofors gun deal case, has been impounded, informed sources said here Wednesday.

The order impounding his passport was delivered Tuesday to a family member of the former Bofors agent at his residence at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Chadha, also chief of Anatronic General Corporation, has been given a week’s time to surrender his passport. He could also appeal to the Indian Passport authorities within one month, the sources said.

If Chadha fails to surrender his passport by April 17, his passport will be liable for revocation, the sources said.

In case Chadha’s passport is revoked, India will inform the UAE authorities that he has become an illegal migrant without a legal travel document. A request for his deportation could then be made to the UAE government.

The order for impounding his passport has been issued under the passport act, the sources said.
