BAHRAIN (PTI): Win Chadha a Co-accused in the multi-million Bofors gun deal scam has claimed that offers to stop his persecution have been made to him if he said certain specific people were bribed in the deal.
If i stand up and say certain specific people were bribed (my) persecution will stop this has always been the offer commissaries have indicated time and again. But 1 will pot lie to save my skin he said recently ‘The former agent of the Swedish Bofors company categorically said he bribed nobody no body to get the deal
About Rs 640 million were allegedly paid in illegal kickbacks to medicament in the Rs 14301 million deal for Howitzer guns and the kickback money deposited in five accounts in a Geneva bank.
The scandal which came to light ‘in 1987-88 rocked the then Rajiv Gandhi government and was. In a Way instrumental in Gandhi’s ex it from power in 1989 general elections.
The investigation into the scam is led by the Central Bureau of Investigation India’s Premier Investigation Agency which has asked the Geneva Bank to disclose the name of the account holders
Chadha also asked the Indian Government to get Serious about the investigation of the case and bring the papers (relating to the deal) from the Swiss make them public ictus all together see what they have to say Why is that everyone Parliament is in session the Bofors issue is raked up and then nothing happens? What parties are interested in keeping it desiring without doing anything about it? He asked. Chadha who was staying in Dubai for past few years said he has done nothing wrong and has been made a scapegoat in the Bofors scandal.
