Dear Editor:
Referring to the July/August 1992 The Lion, I was pleased to see on the front cover a gracious portrait of Asha and Rohit C. Mehta. Lion Mehta, President of The International Association of Lions Clubs, no doubt, is a dedicated and hardworking member Lions Club over the years has performed a superb job in India. But, this letter is really about the photos showing Mehta a long side with the Hindu tyrants former two Prime Ministers of India, Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. Perhaps, these photos portray Lion Mehta’s ready access to the power. What disturbed me the most was the underlying glorification of these tyrants that accompanied with those photos? This has prompted me to question Lion Mehta’s judgment. I am sure many Lions know very little of Rajiv and his mother Indira. Within the constraints of letter to the editor, | provide you a brief account of their atrocities committed on the innocent citizens of India,
Following Indira Gandhi’s assassination allegedly by her two Sikh bodyguards, Rajiv roared “teach the bastards a lesson.” As a result, thousands of Sikhs (women included) were murdered in cold blood with the complicity of Rajiv’s Congress party senior officials, Some of these murderers later on were rewarded-they become members of Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet. Rajiv as the prime minister of India made sure the culprits be never brought to justice by repeatedly sabotaging the official and unofficial investigations. One time when asked about the state sponsored Sikh mass murders, he replied:” “When a great tree falls, the earth shakes.” Think of that fellow Lions, Rajiv in a chronic Hindu style justifying the mayhem ‘Great tree’ refers to Indira; ‘earth shakes’ points to thousands who were killed and fallen on the earth, together with that ‘great tree,” causing the earth to shake! Those precious little ones who were the most innocent by any standards available today (in this case, the Sikh children) lost their lives too, in the most gruesome manner-by neck lacing. Neck lacing involves burning a person to death by putting Kerosene-soaked lire around the neck and then setting it on fire. During Rajiv Gandhi’s reign, there was a routinization of the torture, extrajudicial murders, “encounter killings,” mass rape, disappearances, extortion, detention without trial, etc., by his police, Please read Amnesty International reports. If playing with blood reflected Rajiv’s right-side demented brain, his left-side brain showed his love for exotic world leaders. Under Rajiv, India erected a statue of Vladimir Lenin in New Delhi’s Nehru Park. Rajiv extolled Lenin as a “visionary revolutionary” and “towering figure of history,” who “outlined new horizons for humanity.” Rajiv Gandhi’s affinity for the far Left, especially to the Daniel Ontega’s Sandinista regime in Nicaragua is noteworthy. Ortega rewarded Rajiv with the Sandinistas’ highest decoration, the Order of Augusto Cesar Sandino.
Indira Gandhi was no less. During her reign, she corrupted anything and everything she laid her hands on. He injected poison into the entire political institutions of India, first by attracting the criminals and then using those same criminals to subdue any kind of opposition. For all practical purposes she effectively transformed the Indian Polity into a Safe Haven for the Hindu Thugs. From her early childhood, she organized and ran the ‘Monkey Brigade’ in a true dictatorial fashion. Later, she was bewitched with the model of collective life in China when China was under Mao. After India’s border war with China in 1962, she experienced a change of heart; her leftish infatuation moved further in the north direction-to the USSR. And it remained so until her death,
I wish Lion Mehta the best of success as our President. I hope, he will refrain himself from further glorifying the Hindu tyrants and safeguard the well-earned image of Lions Club as a faithful non-political philanthropic organization.
