CALCUTTA: West Bengal’s ruling Marxists have been good humoring the voter by pre-election “bribes”.

The bribes were given by way of making investments in developmental schemes and pledges for welfare in the future.

In the past two weeks Mr Jyoti Basu the West Bengal Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues have laid foundation stones and inaugurated hospitals health center’s over bridges flyovers ferry services fire service stations dairy plants Government offices packaging plants and police stations across the State Mr Basu however said that the Leftists did not believe in bribing the electorate before an election.

The State government has also sanctioned Rs 92 lakh for paying off dues to primary and secondary school teachers and Rs 209666 as grant-in-aid to the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council for grant of old pension to farmers. It has accorded administrative approval to an outlay of up to Rs 10 lakh for meeting part expense towards setting up a district science center at Burdwan. The Government has directed the concerned department to distribute land titles to the refugees across the State.

An additional installment of Dearness Allowance to the State Government employees has also been announced.
