ADELAIDE, Australia: A blazing innings by Viv Richards failed to inspire the West Indies, who scored a disappointing 237 for five wickets in their World Series Cup one day cricket match against Australia.
Richards, who came to the wicket in the 30th over with West Indies on just 110 for two, smashed seven fours and two sixes in an innings of 69 from 64 balls, his. Highest score from seven innings on this tour.
The West Indies Captain dominated stands of 74 for the third wicket with Richie Richardson and 37 for the fifth wicket with Jeffrey Dujon.
He twice hit off spinner Peter Taylor for six over midwicket, the first ball landing on top of a grandstand.
Richardson, who made 72 from 134 balls after opening in place of the injured Gordon Greenidge, was bowled by Australia’s most successful bowler, Steve Waugh, and Logie was run out without facing a ball after a mix-up with his skipper.
The Australian bowlers stuck to their task well, particularly after Richards’ onslaught against Taylor, whose eight overs cost 49 runs.
