PANAJI: (PTI) The common man’s concern appears to be lack of basic amenities rather than is sues like “power to the people” or Bofors kickbacks and corruption, even as aspirants of both the Congress (I) and Opposition parties in Goa are making hectic preparations to take on each other at the hosting.

Irate residents of Vasco Mormugao areas, coming under the South Goa (Mormugao) Lok Sabha constituency from where Union Minister of State for Finance Eduardo Faleiro is contesting, stormed the office of the Assistant Engineer, PWD, Vasco, in charge of water supply, and should in unison “water first, votes later”.

An action committee formed by the citizens said citizens would bar the entry of Congress (I) Ministers and MLAs to the area till they got water.

The committee alleged that the PWD office had given 690 water supply connections to “influential persons and five star hotels” in the area, while applications of committee members were pending.

Opposition parties the Mahatashtrawadi Gomantak Party and the Gomantak Lok Paksh have Pitted their nominees against Mr. Faleiro for the seat.
