CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 16 issued bailable warrants against Sumedh Singh Saini Senior Superintendent of Police Ludhiana for willfully ignoring the orders of the court to appear before it in person

In an unusual order Justice V.K. Jhanji issued bailable warrant’s against Saini to procure his presence in court on March 15 The judge directed a DSP Nachhattar Singh to execute warrant of arrest upon Saini personally and report in person in the Court on March 15 It was also made clear in the order that in case the DSP failed to execute the warrant’s suitable action would be taken against him also.

The order follows a petition before the court stating that Saini Who had earlier come under a cloud when he was the SSP at Chandigarh in order to settle a personal score used his official position to allegedly harass and humiliate the people of Saini Motors and their associates. It is alleged that Saini’s sister was married to one of the brothers of the proprietors of Saini Motors. Later when the case was again taken up for hearing the state counsel reiterated his earlier stand. On this the judge in his seven page order observed that it appears from the record of the case that Saini knows of the order of the High Court and is intentionally avoiding to appear in person showing scant respect for the orders of the High Court and it amounts to contempt of court. He issued show cause notice to both Saini SSP and Paramjit Singh SHO as to why contempt proceedings be not initiated against them.
