KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan, venue for the 1990 senior world cup hockey, has been asked to lay another artificial turf pitch in Lahore or lose the honor of hosting the tournament.
‘The international hockey federation requires the host country to have two pitches in proximity to the existing main pitch at National Stadium, Apart from the one in Lahore, Pakistan has another pitch in Karachi which is about 700 km away.
With just five months for the start of the tournament, Pakistan has not yet met the requirement.
The FIH president, Mr. Etienne chitch said in Ipoh that Pakistan have until October to lay an alternative synthetic pitch. He said if there was any problem, ‘Australia have agreed to host the world cup ‘even at short notice. He however, expressed confidence that Pakistan will meet the conditions.
He pointed out that they needed to have two training pitches for the world cup to ‘enable finalists to have as much practice as possible before the tournament.
