NEW DELHI: Militant nationalist forces in Maharashtra and Gujarat have been closely involved in the trafficking of arms and narcotics since 1989, according to senior defense officers engaged in monitoring the movement in to and out of the country.

Officers say that a warning at a conference, military officials had pointed out that certain chauvinistic political formations in Maharashtra and Gujarat were deeply involved in the growing narcotics and arms traffic from Pakistan.
