CHANDIGARH: The entire opposition walked out of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha last week protesting the rejection of adjournment motions by Speaker Harnam Dass Johar. The motion was relating to charges of corruption and misuse of power by All India Youth Congress president and Minister of state Maninderjit Singh Bitta leveled by Punjab Pradesh Congress general secretary Ramesh Singla.

 While one adjourmment motion was in the name of BJP, CPI (M) and Janata Dal, the notice for another motion was given by CPI. The notice given by CPl also mentioned corruption by other ministers, apart from Bitta, and demanded setting up of anti-corruption tribunal.

The issue was raised by Tarsem Jodhan (CPM) during zero hour. Madan Mohan Mittal (BIP) said Chief Minister Beant Singh had been assuring that he would institute an inquiry in case some specific charges were brought.to his notice. Satnam Singh Kainth (BSP), Vimla Dang (CPI), Ranjit Singh Chhajjalwadi (Akali Daly and Vijay Kumar Sathi (JD) also raised the issue.

Johar wanted affidavits to be submitted.
