LUCKNOW: Former prime minister and Janata Dal leader, V P Singh Friday said that the struggle of his party to secure social justice for the backward, poor and women would continue despite hurdles created by some vested interests,
Addressing a convention of party workers here Singh emphasised that his party was committed to the upliftment of the backward classes, economically weaker section and women.
He said it was unfortunate that his policies were not liked by some vested interests that were out to create all sorts of hurdles.
Singh said he always preferred principles to office and would never compromise on the policies of social justice. V P Singh had resigned as prime minister after he lost a confidence motion in parliament in November.
The former prime minister said the country was passing through a critical stage and a battle was needed to be waged to save the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country and to defend secularism.
Regretting that some political parties were engaged in creating a rift between communities in the name of religion, Singh warned that hatred between communities was bound to spoil the country.
