BANGALORE :Opposition Janata Dal leader and former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh Tuesday said the mid-term polls to the Lok Sabha (lower house) would most probably be held by this year-end.

The owner of the government is scared Singh told a press conference here. It was like a case of a student who was not prepared to face the examination and was postponing it out of fear of failure, he said,

The minority Chandra Shekhar government is being supported by Rajiv Gandhi’s Congress-I from outside.

Singh later said he had not expected his National Front government to last beyond two or three years after it came to power in 1989, due to its alliance with the BJP.

Addressing members of the bar association here, he said the process of break-up between the Janata Dal and the BJP had to start sometime as the latter was bent on maintaining its rightist and fundamentalist stand.
