CALCUTTA (PTI): The Russians virtually withdrew from the Calcutta tea auction recently, buying only very selectively in the orthodox section on Aug.25.

So far total buying by the CIS Stales amounted to roughly 16 million kgs as against a total protocol amount of 65 million kgs for the year 1991-92, market sources said adding that non-availability of funds was widely believed to be the reason behind the withdrawal,

Recently the Russians one of the largest importers of Indian tea, had vastly reduced their buying.
