CHANDIGARH: Feb 7 A top militant suspected of being involved in the killing of M.L. Verma additional principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister and five others committed suicide in the northern Indian state of Haryana Friday Three persons including a hard-core militant were killed in the northern Indian state of Punjab Feb 7.
The top militant identified as Balwinder Singh alias Bhinda and suspected to be involved in gunning down of Verma and five others near Kakkar Marja village of Ambala district Saturday consumed cyanide and died when surrounded by policemen in Lalhari Kalan village the native village of Vermain Yamunanagar district Friday.
Bhinda was hiding in his father in-laws house in the village.
Meanwhile there was no breakthrough in the gunning down of five Haryana policemen near Barara also in Ambala district Thursday night.
Megh Singh of the Rajindra hospital Patiala was gunned down by militants at his house in Punjab Bagh area Thursday night while Lembar Singh was killed in Ojla village in Jalandhar.
Feb. 8
At least six persons were killed andcaboutc40cinjured eight of them seriously when a bomb exploded in a compartment of the Ferozepur Delhi-Malwa express near Nanwana in Haryana on Feb.8.
The bomb exploded in the moving express train while it was crossing Dahrondi railway station eight kms from Narwana on the Tohana-Narwana section of the northern railway in Jind district The train was coming from Bhatinda in northem Punjab.
Shops and commercial establishments in various towns in Jind and Hissar districts including Tohana Jakhal and Narwana downed their shutters as soon as the news of the blast spread.
Senior police officers had reached Narwana and security in the sensitive areas of the two districts was being beefed up to check repercussions.
The seriously injured including ahead constable of RPF and three railway workers were admitted to a civil hospital at Narwana. Meanwhile a Punjab militant lobbed a grenade at a police je an attempted to attack a civil hospital at Narwana.

The militant then lobbed a grenade at the jeep but no one was hurt in the incident police said adding that the jeep was extensively damaged He was arrested on the spot.
Deputy Commissioner of police (Control room) Uijwal Mishrasaid the two hailed from Punjab and interrogations were still in progress to uncover their plans.
He said there could be a few more Punjab militants who accompanied the two arrested militants and managed to escape.
Mishra denied reports that the militant tried to consume a cyanide pill on being caught by the police.
Police are interrogating both the militants whose identities and the outfit were not immediately made known.
Feb. 9
Eight members of a family including three women were killed and one person seriously injured when a man ran amuck and allegedly hacked to death among others his parents and a brother in Wapui district of Amritsar district
The other people killed allegedly by Atma Singh included his two sisters-in-law and three nephews. Another brother of Atma Singh was also injured in the attack most probably with a sword the Tar Taran police chief Ajit Singh told the media.
Earlier police reports had said that five persons had been gunned down in the village.
The killed persons have been identified as Mohinder Singh and Harbans Kaur-Parents Suba Singh and his wife Gurmeet Kaur Amarjit Singh Jejman Singh Ved Singh Balwinder Kaur Jasbir Singh was seriously wounded and removed to hospital.
The alleged killer is reported to Keane.

The four militants were arrested when security forces intercepted their car at a Naka point on Mang road. The militants opened fire in bid to escape but were over powered by security men after an en-counter. Two other militants managed to escaped, police said.
Feb. 11
Sikh militants in the northern Indian state of Punjab shot dead five Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who were campaigning for their party candidates for the Feb.19 elections in the strife-torn state.
Four BJP workers were killed and one was seriously injured when scooter borne militants spear heading the poll boycott campaign fired at them at two places in the Amritsar city while they were campaigning in three-wheelers Monday evening. Three of the killed were identified as Lakhbir Singh Tinku and Sunny.
Another BJP worker Jagdish Chand was gunned down by militants while he was campaigning at Jagraon near Ludhiana In both cases the militants escaped after the killings.
In other incidents in the state a sub-inspector of police and five militants were killed and a border security force post was damaged police said.
