NEW DELHI: Violence continued unabated in West Bengal Tripura and Kerala as the other states hit by the May 22 flare up which claimed about 20 lives following the assassination of Congress (I) president Rajiv Gandhi were returning to normal.
Even in Tamil Nadu where the former prime minister fell victim to a bomb explosion at Sriperumbudur the situation was returning to normal though buses stayed off the roads in many areas as a precautionary measure. Except for an incident in which police opened fire on clashing DMK and AIADMK workers near Madurai injuring four the state remained peaceful.
In Andhra Pradesh the state worst hit by the incidents curfew was lifted in Hyderabad and many towns of the coastal region but shops and business establishments remained closed.
But explosions rocked Several Paris of West Bengal and Tripura as curfew which was lifted earlier in Agartala was re-imposed as mobs continued to be on rampage bursting bombs and indulging in widespread arson and looting.
In Calcutta one person was seriously injured in a bomb explosion as Congress (I) workers disrupted normal life with road blockades in several parts of the state.
