Jalandhar — Mr. D. D. Khullar, a prominent Congress (I) leader was killed and Mr. Gurdial Saint former M.L. A. along with another local congress leader were injured when unknown assailants entered the house where they were holding a meeting and opened fire at them.
Mr. Khullar was also reportedly connected with some fundamentalist Hindu organizations and Mr. Gurdial Saini is known for his connection with the underworld of criminals. He was believed to be instrumental in arranging attacks on members of a community in the wake of Chaudhary Balbir Singh’s murder. Mr. Khullar’s brother was also murdered sometime back in a similar attack. The assailant’s escaped after the attack.
No arrest has been made in this connection. Police has intensified patrolling in the area and guards have been provided to some other congressmen also.
Meanwhile, reports have come of the murder of a priest in a village near Amritsar.
