CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor Virender Verma expressed his unhappiness with the functioning of the police in the State and said he would recommend changes when he met Prime Minister Chander Shekhar on Nov 21.

Addressing a Press conference here the Governor said the State had more than one Director General Police, an Additional D.G.P, a dozen I.Gs and 20 D.1.Gs. The Governor hinted that he would like the officers not to confine themselves in Chandigarh. Asked whether his proposal to bring about administrative changes would involve D.G.P. K.P.S. Gill, the Governor gave a vague reply saying: “It is an administrative matter.”

The Governor admitted failure on the law and order front attributing it to the alleged interference from Pakistan and withdrawal of paramilitary forces from Punjab for duties elsewhere.
