CHICAGO: The Punjabi community of metropolitan Chicago is celebrating Vaisakhi festival, part of its cultural heritage on Saturday April 1, 1995 7 p.m. sharp. The venue is Center East Auditorium, 7701-A, No. Lincoln Av. in Skokie Illinois. The auditorium has an excellent sound system and an impeccable security arrangement by Skokie police department. A traditional state of the art colorful Punjabi cultural and variety entertainment program titled “Rangla Punjab ’95” will show case Bhangra, Gidha, Punjabi songs, music, poetry, skits and many other youth and children’s items from the land of five rivers (Punjab), Punjab, a region covering parts of India and Pakistan, where Vaisakhi is a major folk festival.

“Rangla Punjab” a widely attended, major annual Punjabi event in Chicago is organized by the Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago to preserve and promote Punjabi language, cultural heritage and to encourage, educate and harness local Punjabi artistic talent. The program is not for profit. Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago is a community organization devoted to promote Punjabi culture and per- forming arts in metropolitan Chicago area.

Students and Host Families sought for Student Exchanges

The American International Youth Stu- dent Exchange Program is non-profit high school foreign exchange program in the United States, Europe, and other parts of the world. AIYSEP believes a greater international understanding is accomplished among people and countries through cultural and home stay programs. It offers qualified students a chance to spend a summer, semester or school year with a host family in America or abroad. AIYSEP is also seeking American High School Students, ages 15-18, who would like to spend a high school semester of year with a European family or to participate in a four or six week family stay abroad in the summer. Students are screened by AIYSEP school counselors and educators in the local schools. Candidates who have evidence of maturity, superior character and knowledge of English and a foreign language can be finalists and become AIYSEP students.
