NEW DELHI (PTI): Uzbekistan July 29 expressed its desire for doing away with Barter trade with India in the wake of foreign exchange constraints in the county. Speaking at a meeting organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (Cll), the first deputy foreign minister of Uzbekistan, F,Teshabaev, in a candid speech in Hindi, declared that his government would prefer to get foreign exchange for goods sold rather than continuing with the Banter system that existed between India and the erstwhile Soviet Union.
Deputy prime minister of Uzbekistan, T.M.Miryakubov, who was stated to address the meeting, did not attend due to, what the other members said, was preoccupation in his discussions with Indian government officials.
Teshabaev also demanded latest technologies from countries including India for the purpose of import. The Uzbekistan delegation has sought the latest packaging technology for Urea from India for exporting the same to India and other countries.
The chairman cum managing director of the mineral and metal trading corporation, S.N.Malik, had suggested during the meeting for fulfillment of contracts by Uzbekistan for supply of copper, zinc, cotton and urea, based on. Barter trade agreement.
