NEW DELHI: The director of the Indian Institute of Technology (HT), Madras. Prof. N.V.C. Swamy May 11, expressed serious concern at the Bush administrations proposed two year ban on the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for commercial transactions in the United States.
“Look at the way the screw is being turned,” he said reacting to the reported US move following Russia’s proposed sale of three cryogenic rocket engines to India.
Inaugurating an institute industry get-together here, organized by the Karaikudi-based Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI), he said the US had contemplated the ban as it was” afraid” with India proving what it could achieve in space science through indigenous technology .It was high time industry, research and development (R and D) institutions in the country and everyone else concerned realized that “imports will never allow us to grow” he said and called for building self-confidence in Indian industry. Prof. Swamy wanted the meeting to identify at least two or three areas and take a “solemn. Pledge” that no reports will be made in those areas and demonstrate that indigenous technology was to deliver the goods.
