WASHINGTON: The U.S administration has recommended aid worth 259.471 million dollars for Pakistan for fiscal 1992 (beginning October 1 1991) as against 99928 million dollars for India.

The Pakistan package includes 114.471 million dollars in military aid and is subject to U.S president George Bush’s ability to certify that Islamabad does not have a nuclear device nor is it seeking one.

U.S. officials have said that discussions are going on with Pakistan on that subject.

The 1992 aid recommended to India amounting to 99.928 million dollars contrasts with 97.282 million dollars allocated in fiscal 1991 the current year.

The development assistance allocation of 19.876 million dollars in fiscal 1991 is raised in the 1992 recommendation to 22 million dollars in fiscal 1992.

The amount allocated to India for international military education and training was 300000 dollars in fiscal 1991 The rest is PL 480 aid or food distributed to the poor through churches and voluntary organizations.

Bangladesh will get 136.874 million dollars (against the allocation of 127.670 million in fiscal 1991) Maldives 70000 dollars for military education and training as against 50000 dollars in fiscal 1991 and Nepal development assistance of 15 million dollars 185000 dollars for international military education and training and a half million dollar grant recommended for military purchases.
