NEW DELHI (PTI): India witnessed an unusual celestial event recently as a totally eclipsed full mood hung over the horizon for several hours.
People in India missed the first part of the eclipse when the earth’s shadow gradually covered the moon, but could match the unveiling of the lunar face as the shadow shifted and slowly the moon recovered from darkness to shine in renewed glory.
“Although lunar eclipses occur several times a year, the rise of a totally eclipsed full moon occurs only once in about 54 years.”
The eclipse began at 1541 hrs. (1031 GMT) and ended at about 2120 hrs. (1550 gmt). The Lunar face was completely covered by the earth’s shadow between 1742 and 1919hrs (1212and 1349 GMT). The eclipsed moon was visible as a reddish glow in the sky. The eclipse was visible in most parts of India ‘except the extreme west.
