GENEVA: A statement released by UNPO Chairman Michael Van Wanj Van Praag says “The Steering committee considered number of serious complaints, concerning the council of Khalistan’s admission as a Member of UNPO. The issue does not concern the admissibility of the Sikh people to UNPO but is limited to the question of the representative character of the Council of Khalistan as representing the entire Sikh Nation. Upon close examination the Steering committee concluded) that it admitted the Council of Khalistan on the basis of erroneous information. Consequently the council of Khalistan’s membership of UNPO is no longer valid. This decision was taken in order to protect the credibility of the Organization and its members. It should not be interpreted as a rejection of the Sikh people by UNPOUNPO condemns all human rights violations against the Sikh people, it calls on the India: Government and all Sikh leaders to spare no efforts 16 seek a peaceful and just solution to the problems between them.”
Dr Gurmit S.Aulakh, whose hard work has been instrumental in bringing the plight of the Sikh community to national and International for a has ‘expressed his disappointment at the’ recent vote ‘but has vowed to continue his efforts 10 bring Khalistan to a reality.
