BHOPAL (PTI): The CBI Indias premier investigating agency Nov.12 contended that Union Carbide India LTD (UCIL) wanted to close down the Methyl Iso Cyanate (MIC) plant due to heavy losses since its inception in 1980 and that was why it adopted a negligent attitude towards all safety measures and other precautions which resulted into the gas leak disaster on the night of December 21984 claiming thousands of lives and incapacitating others.

Continuing arguments on the second day before the court of additional sessions Judge Majahat Ali Shah against UCIL officials charged “culpable homicide.”
