NEW DELHI: The union council of ministers would be expanded sometime this week just before the budget session of Parliament beginning on February 21 Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar announced here Friday.

Talking to reporters at the airport after his return from a three day visit to Nepal Chandra Shekhar said the fate of the five disqualified ministers would be decided at the time of the proposed expansion of the cabinet.

The Congress (I) the supporting ally of the Janata Dal (S) has opposed continuance of the five ministers in the cabinet and demanded their resignations.

The five ministers are Vidya Charan Shukla Bhagey Goverdhan Shakil-Ur-Rahman Sarvar Hussein and Basav Raj Patil.

They were disqualified under the anti-defection law for switching loyalties from the then premier Vishwanath Pratap Singh to Chandra Shekhar and joining the latter’s group which was later i as the Janata Dal (S).
