MOSCOW: President Mikhail Gorbachev has ruled out West German interference in East German election campaign.

Inclusion of a future United Germany in NATO is unacceptable no matter what reservations are made he said during talks with East German Prime Minister Hans Modrow.

Later answering questions on the same issue from Soviet East German and West German reporters, Mr. Gorbachey said the Soviet Union could not accept United Germany being a NATO member. This is absolutely ruled out, he added.

On the election campaign underway in East Germany the Soviet leader said I see that attempts are being made to pressurize the Germans in the GDR in the interests of some parties and their political designs.

I see how many visitors from West Germany are now in the GDR and how they interfere in GDR’s affairs as if it has already lost sovereignty and are no longer an independent state.
