TORONTO: Ontario drivers caught failing to buckle up will be hit with two demerit points starting on Jan.1. “‘Seatbelts save lives, yet everyday people are dying in collisions because they are not buckling Up,” Transportation Minister Billes Pouliot said. The $90 fine for being Caught not wearing a seatbelt will remain in force. Any driver with 15 demerit points faces a 30day license suspension. Under the new law, drivers will also face demerit points if passengers under 16 are not wearing seatbelts. They are also subject to the penalty if children are not in proper safety seats.
