TOKYO (PTI): United Nations secretary general Boutros Ghali said Feb.18 the world body would not intervene in the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan.

To a persistent question from a Pakistani journalist at a news conference in Tokyo, the secretary-general said the United Nations could not intervene in a dispute unless both the “‘protagonists” involved asked for intervention.

Even in Bosnia our Yugoslavia, he explained, the United Nations was finding it difficult to get involved in the absence of requests from all the “protagonists” involved.

Unless all the parties concerned wanted U.N, intervention there could be no intervention, he said.
