NEW DELHI: The Home Ministry is believed to have referred to India’s External Affairs Ministry a desire to withdraw UN observers in Kashmir.
The UN group’s presence in Srinagar is causing embarrassment to India because of a serious of reports the group sent to its principal suggesting violations of human rights in Kashmir.
The group reportedly appraised the UN secretary general of the Indian armed forces practice of picking up Kashmir youths from their homes taking them to the line of actual control and killing them as “intruders”. Most often the Kashmiris demonstrate outside the UN office to demand intervention by the world organization against atrocities by the govt.
The Indian govt feels the presence of the UN office creates uncertainty.
‘Their counterparts in Pakistan have Rawalpindi as their headquarters and not in Pak held Kashmir.
The least Delhi may want is to shift the UN office from Srinagar to Delhi.
