NEW DELHI: The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) an outlawed militant outfit has forged links with the banned National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) creating an all pervasive “psychological warfare” like situation in the state of Assam in north eastern India.
This was disclosed by federal minister of state for home Subodh Kant Sahay while talking to reporters Sunday night aboard a BSF aircraft enrooted to Delhi from Guwahati.
After completing his four-day tour of Assam Meghalaya and Nagaland he said recent developments in the region were enough to arrive to a conclusion that the ULFA had “virtually hijacked” the Assam Gana Parishad and in collusion with some officials and people it was indulging to destroy the organs of the state power.
He said the center had reports that the ULFA had also established links with Naxalite groups to “liberate Assam” under the Maoist Philosophy.
Sahay said the government had reports that a large organised band of ULFA activists was using sophisticated weapons under the patronage of some powerful quarters.
During talks with district authorities of Assam Sahay said the federal government had expressed “displeasure” over poor results in maintenance of law and order situation after imposition of president’s rule in in November.
