ISLAMABAD: The British government has given an ultimatum to the Indian government that it should not further delay the posting of two British narcotics liaison officers in Delhi and Bombay.

BBC said the Indian Government had agreed to this with a view to helping prevention of smuggling of narcotics to Britain. Visa was issued to two British officers on June 12, but according to a spokesman of the British Foreign Office, the Indian government started backing out from this agreement,

BBC quoted a Secretary of the British Foreign Office as saying that 80 percent of the heroin smuggled to Britain early this year came from India. He also disclosed that the entire quantity of heroin seized last year came from India.

BBC also said that following the hardening of laws relating to narcotics in Pakistan and following the increase in cooperation between Britain and Pakistan in this field India had become a great source of smuggling of heroin.
