BANGALORE(PTI):Chi Udaya shankar, famous Kannada films lyricist, who had penned lyrics for more than 450 Kannada films, died here July 2 after a brief illness.
Udayashankar, who was 59, is survived by his wife, an actor son, Guruduti, and a daughter.
Son of well-known Kannada dramatist, Sadashivaiah, Udayashankar started his career in the film field when he was 11 years old and acted in the film “Sant Tukaram.”
Some of the hit films for which he penned lyrics including Mayura, Jeevana Chaitra and Akasmika, He had also acted in the film “Model Tedi” produced by Jate B.R.Pantulu.
Though, Udayashankar stayed in Madras in the early years of his career, he had shifted to Banga lore and had been living here for quite some time,
Udayashankar had won the Kamataka state government award three times as best lyricist. He had also bagged the central award for his contribution in films like “Bangarada Hoovu,” and “Santa Tukaram.”
The lyricist shared an award with Singectam Srinivasarao for the film Bhagyada Lakshmi Barama” in 198586 and also for another film “an and.” A product of the Bangalore na tonal college, Udayashankar had camed a name even as a student. He had acted in several dramas.
Other popular films for which he wrote lyrics included “Kula Gourava,” “Nagara Haavu,” “Premadakanike,” “Ratha Saptami.” President of the Karnataka film chambersof commerce S.Ramesh, expressing shock over the sudden’ death of Udayashankar, said in his death Kamataka has lost a veteran film artiste, who had enriched the Kannada film world with his cap tivating lyrics.
