AMRITSAR: The U.S. envoy in India, Thomas Pickering visited Punjab this week and met a cross section of politicians and human rights activists to assess the situation for him. He met chief ministers of Punjab and Haryna. Among others, Pickering Mel Activists of International Human Rights Organization, Punjab Human Rights Organization, the Movement against Stale Repression, leaders of Mann, Badal and Baba Akali Dals. The ULS. Envoy also visited Darbar Saheb complex. Pickering is likely to submit a detailed report to the U.S. President on the situation in Punjab soon. Pickering’s visit obviously had the Indian government’s backing.
