WASHINGTON: A Sikh separatist loader wanted by India in a bus bombing that killed eight people and other crimes was arrested in Minneapolis, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), said.
Daya Singh Sandhu, 33, was arrested by the INS on August 3 at the Minneapolis-st. Paul airport and Charged with illegal entry into the United States and visa fraud, the INS said in g statement on Friday, August 11.
Indian officials identified Sandhu as the leader of the separatist Khalistan Liberation Force, the INS said.
Arrested with him were his wife, Kamalject Kaur, 25, and Pinder Brat, 32,4 Canadian immigrant and Indian citizen, No date has been set for Sandhu’ s deportation hearing, INS spokeswoman Elaine Komis said.
‘The INS waited a week (o announce the arrest because it had to clear certain information on Brar with a federal court first, Komis said.
Sandhu, who is being held without bond pending his hearing, is wanted in India in several crimes, including the bus bombing that killed eight and injured 29 others, He is also. suspected of being involved in political kidnappings and arms trafficking there.
Brar faces charges of illegally entering the United States from Canacla, where the INS said he was planning to take Sandhu under false identity.
