GENEVA: The U.N. Commission on Human Rights will meet in Geneva to discuss a U.S. sponsored resolution critical of Chinese human right abuses, The key issue in the resolution is the arrest of 6yearold Tibetan Gedhun Choeky Nyima, who was installed as Lama or spiritual had of Tibetans, by a search party of monks headed b3 ‘Mr. Abbot during May of 1995. Nyima is considered to be the rein carnation of 10th senior spiritual leader Panchen Lama who died in 1989, however, six months late Chinese government installed another 6 year old Gyain Cain Norbu as spiritual head under the protection of armed guards. Chinese authorities insisted that Nyima as being false and reincarnation imposed by Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual ruler now in exile in India.

Several human rights organizations including Asia Watch blame international apathy .and Clinton administration’s unwillingness to impose sanctions, encouraged China to be more ruthless and repressive towards religious minority’s including Buddhist, or Tibetan.

Mr, Abbot of Tashi Chumpo Monastery in Shigatsei, the headquarters of Panchen Lamas, has been missing since he recommended Nyima as the spiritual leader.

Chinese authorities called him traitor since he informed his choice to, Dalai Lama before sharing it with Beijing.
