UNITED NATIONS, April 13, Reuter: The Security Council will meet on Thursday to resume debate on the situation in the Israeli occupied territories, a U.N. spokesman announced on Wednesday.
The decision, urged by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and supported by nonaligned countries, was taken during closed door consultations among the council members.
It followed Israel’s deportation to Southern Lebanon on Monday of eight Palestinians accused of incitement in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, scene of a four month old uprising in which about 140 Palestinians have been killed.
The Security Council last debated the situation in the occupied territories on March 30 but adjourned without adopting a resolution
